2006 Spank Rally to IBA National Meet, via Pikes Peak and Mount Evans

George Zelenz's 2006 Spank Rally was ending on 8/16/2006 in Colorado Springs, and the 2006 Iron Butt Association National Meet was
starting the next day in Denver. And someone loosely organized a group ride on the 17th from Colorado Springs to Denver via Pikes Peak
and Mount Evans, so I quickly joined in with dozens of fellow long distance riders. It was a super fun and memorable day.
Here are some photos from the ride.

We started in Colorado Springs, traveled up US-24 past Manitou Springs, then went up Pikes Peak Highway to the summit of Pikes Peak,
and then returned to US-24. (Note, Pikes Peak Highway is now paved except for the parking lot at the summit.)

Back on US-24 we went through Woodland Park and then over the summit of Ute Pass. West of Lake George we turned north on the
very scenic Tarryall Road (CR-77) which took us to Jefferson and US-285. In short order we crossed over the summit of Kenosha Pass,
and at Grant, we turned north on CR-62 toward the summit of Guanella Pass. After some construction delays we arrived at Georgetown
and I-70 which took us to Idaho Springs. (Note, the road over Guanella Pass is now paved.)

More road construction.

At Idaho Springs we headed back up hill on CO-103 to Echo Lake, then turned onto CO-5 and rode to the summit of Mount Evans.
Plenty of curves and plenty of high altitude scenery!
